Terms of Use

GeoPhoto is desktop software for adding and editing location and time information in photo files. It is made by Hu Feiyu (“we”). Orders are processed by our payment provider, which acts as the merchant of record and reseller for all purchases; it is named on the checkout page and on your receipt. By installing or using GeoPhoto you agree to these terms.

1. The license

• Free use. You may install and use GeoPhoto free of charge. Without a license, GeoPhoto saves locations and times for up to 50 photos in total; every other feature works without a time limit.
• Paid license. A license for GeoPhoto 1.x removes that limit. It is a one-time purchase. It covers every 1.x release; a future major version (2.0 and later) may require a paid upgrade. The price is shown on the pricing page and at checkout: US$19 at launch (regular price US$29), plus tax where it applies. The price shown at checkout is the one you pay.
• Devices. One license may be active on up to 3 computers at the same time. You can remove a computer from the license page in Settings and use the license on another one. To prevent sharing, removals may be rate-limited.
• Personal license, not a sale. The license gives you the right to use the software; it does not transfer ownership of it. Don’t share your license key, resell it, or try to get around the license check.
• Offline use. GeoPhoto checks the license with our server from time to time. If it can’t reach the server, a licensed copy keeps working for 30 days.

2. Your files

GeoPhoto changes your photo files only when you press Save. Before it first changes a photo, it keeps a copy of the original in a hidden folder next to the photo (you can turn this off in Settings), and it checks every write by reading the file back. Even so, software can fail and disks can fail. Keep your own backups of photos you care about. You are responsible for the files you choose to edit.

3. Third-party services

Some features use services run by others: map tiles (OpenFreeMap, OpenStreetMap, Stadia Maps, and Mapbox if you add your own token), place search (OpenStreetMap Nominatim, or Mapbox), route planning in the Footprint editor (Mapbox, BRouter, or a server you configure), and an optional AI assistant you connect with your own API key. These services have their own terms and availability, which we don’t control. If a service changes or stops, the related feature may stop working. Using your own API keys is at your own cost and under that provider’s terms.

4. Refunds and revocation

Refunds are described in the Refund Policy. If an order is refunded or charged back, the license from that order is revoked. GeoPhoto then returns to the free limit; files you already saved are not changed.

We may also revoke a license whose key has been shared publicly, resold, bought fraudulently, or used to get around the license check (section 1). A revoked license stops working on every computer and GeoPhoto returns to the free limit; files you already saved are not changed. 5. No warranty

GeoPhoto is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows. We don’t promise that it is free of errors or that it will work with every file, camera or system.

6. Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for loss of data or files. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid for the license. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer law that can’t be limited by contract.

7. Changes

We may update these terms. The version on this page applies from its effective date; we’ll mention significant changes in the release notes.
